Sand, Sea and Peregrines For this seasonal adventure, the journey always starts early, from waking up sharp at 2:30 am and out on the road by 3:30, so that I can reach this pristine beach in the Marin County of California just before sunrise. It takes approximately 2 hours to drive up there and another 15 minutes to walk to the beach through a sandy trail. Fortunately, the notorious Bay Area traffic is not a problem at that time of the day and one can drive over the Golden Gate Bridge with hardly another car in sight, a rarity to say the least. It is the sheer excitement of what I am going... by Hue of Nature | Wildlife-story
The Story of Two Owlets It was an uneventful evening and I was desperate to take home one good frame. By then, I had spent almost two hours stalking a Black-Crowned Night Heron, waiting for it to hunt a fish. This was the fourth day in a row I tried to find the Heron in action but in vain. Are you a photographer? – Suddenly a voice resonated from the bank of the lake. I turned around and saw Jorge, the fishermen, with his son looking at my camera and lens. I replied – Yes, I do take pictures. Have you seen the owls? – came the next question. I had no idea which owls he was... by Hue of Nature | Hawai'i
Hawai`i Travelogue: Part 3 Three Nights in Big Island (Hawai’i) – Hawai`i is the largest of all islands in the Hawai`ian archipelago. Nicknamed as “Big Island”, this geologically youngest island of Hawai`i befittingly earned the moniker due to its staggering size that can fit nearly twice the combined landmass of rest of the Hawai`ian islands. From artesian springs, magnificent waterfalls and jet-black sand beaches along Hamakua coast to towering dormant volcanoes Maunakea and Maunaloa; from sweeping vistas, elevated lookouts and scenic hiking trails of lush Waipio Valley to... by Hue of Nature | Hawai'i
Hawai`i Travelogue: Part 2 Two Nights in Maui (The Valley Isle) – Our 2-day O’ahu trip was over and on July 3rd, we were all set to explore our next travel destination, Maui-the second largest of Hawai`ian islands. The island is named after the demigod Māui in Hawai`ian mythology and also known as “The Valley Isle”. Hopping between the Hawai`ian islands is convenient and quick. There are frequent, daily flights that interconnect the main islands (Kauaʻi, O’ahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Maui and Big Island) and are served by Hawai`ian airlines and Interisland Air Carriers. To catch... by Hue of Nature | Hawai'i
Hawai`i Travelogue: Part 1 Two Nights in O`ahu (The Gathering Place) – Back in 2014, when Sankha and I were living continents apart in Australia and United States, we once thought of meeting in a Hawai`ian island to celebrate Christmas together. Somehow that plan didn’t materialize, but since then we have been eagerly waiting to tick ‘vacation in Hawai`i’ off our bucket list. This year, we finally set out for a “10-day-9-night” long vacation in Hawai`i on 30th June. For our first trip to Hawai`i, we chose three islands from the Hawai`ian archipelago (Ka Pae `Aina O Hawai`i Nei): O`ahu...
